8/11/07 93 PER CENT SAY THAT NIGEL HASTILOW SHOULD HAVE STOOD BY HIS COMMENTS AND WAITED TO BE SACKED
The new direct democracy website (www.1party4all.co.uk) has found that 93 per cent say that Nigel Hastilow should have waited to be sacked instead of resigning so soon.

Nigel Hastilow, a prospective Parliamentary candidate in the midlands and former editor of the Birmingham Post, wrote: "When you ask most people in the Black Country what the single biggest problem facing the country is, most say immigration.

"Many insist: 'Enoch Powell was right'. Enoch, once MP for Wolverhampton South-West, was sacked from the Conservative front bench and marginalised politically for his 1968 'rivers of blood' speech, warning that uncontrolled immigration would change our country irrevocably.

"He was right. It has changed dramatically."

Comments left on the 1Party4All website defended Enoch Powell as not being a racist, and Nigel Hastilow for speaking his mind, a tendency that most politicians today do not have. Contributions included:

“Basically what he said was totally true and represents what the mass of the people feel but he realised that it would torpedo Cameron's game plan and worsen it if he waited to be sacked.”

“He must have realised the reaction he would get from his party to his article if he had given it a moment's thought.”

“It gets very frustrating that people avoid saying what they mean for fear of the political correct police - I thought this country protected free speech!”

The poll continues.

1Party4All was launched earlier this month to enable people to voice their opinions on individual policies, not political parties or party leaders. The new website is promoting ‘direct’ or ‘pure’ democracy where opinions can be aired on specific issues without affiliation to any political party.
